not sure if i spelled that right. i was watching the news this morning and they had a story on a kid who got a hold of a fentynol patch and put it on, while on other meds, and died. he got it from a mate at school. they would not say where that student got it. how do kids get a hold of this stuff? the kid thought it was safer than taking pills.

Kids have always been able to get a hold of stuff for generations. Unforunately it is nothing new or will it be totally stopped. I would venture since I was a kid there has approximately been the same level of kids getting their hands on one form of "illegal" substance or the other. During my youth, just a few years ago, it was mainly booze and weed, but with the usual occasional mix of uppers, downers, and in my day, halucinagens (?). I doubt the problems have really decreased in the last 30 to 40 years. By far most survive their experimentation unharmed, but there is always that tragedy that is so sad. But some sort of illicit substances have made their way into the teenage population as long as I can remember and I will wager long before that and long after now. It is a shame and hard on the family, but seems to be as part of the growing up process in modern western societies as car accidents and other things that teens are more prone to experience. PB FORE! Thats true PB, I think it was late 60's-early 70's Art Linkletters daughter supposedly jumped out of a window from a bad acid trip...started a huge anti-LSD fracas, I never knew of anyone experiencing that kind of trauma drama, usually would just talk people down, oh those were the day's...nothing new under the sun, does not make it any less tragic for that poor kid & his family though.

The junkies up here have been dropping like flies from fentanyl laced heroin. Stuff is pretty strong, I guess. We're talking about long-time addicts and one injection of this stuff kills them.
You must be the change you want to see in the world. -Ghandi |

Yikes I take Fent patches,
the only thing that I take with it is 2.5 klonopin once in awhile, usually after 72hrs after putting on the patch. Yes it is strong alright and you can't guess how much your getting if you fool around with it...Thats too bad the street people or whom ever better stop mixing, and especially shooting it with H -that plain suicide- Alpha |

Al, did you take Hydro with apap? And if so, how does the patch compare to that?
I ask because my doc wants to put me on them. |

Duragesic/fentanyl is one of the strongest pain meds out there. Since its absorbed through the skin, there is the opportunity for it to be time released.
Everyone's experience varies on this med. Most have to change around the 48 hr mark. I was on it for around 1 yr before I switched PM docs, and put on oxy. 15.00 membership until the 31DEC2008! What a great holiday gift to yourself! |

Yes, yes I did ,
There is quite a difference with me. I have a big tolerance to meds and I got an immediate tolerance to the patch, as opposed to a lowering of tolerance some what with lortabs. That is if I take vacations with it. I can go 6 or 7 days on a patch and notice no difference the way I feel . I also take 50 mcgs in the patch. It does relieve the over all pain I have from the arthritis caused by reiters syndrome quite well. But no buzz, lol Funny not even from the start. I was expecting something, mild or whatever but nothing..regards, Alpha |

Thank you Al. I think I'd like to try it. I just wonder about the addiction factor. Also I am nervous because it is a treatment for cancer. God forbid, but What if I came down with that. Would it work for me? You know what I mean? Dicey
