I like to watch the show Dr. G., medical examiner, periodically, and happened to catch it last night. Was very disappointed to hear, while conducting an autopsy of an overdose, mention that "she had bought oxycodone over the Internet." They're usually pretty factual, and the other medications thay found in this woman's blood, Soma, hydro, and some benzo, could be got online if someone lied to enough doctors, but we all know that Oxy, a schedule 2, can't be prescribed over the Internet. I wonder how many people will now believe that it can, due to this false information?

Catlady,
Saw the same show and my mouth almost hit the floor. Like you, I thought, oxycodone over the internet, hmmm, doubt it. |

Aside from my esteemed colleague, Faustus, all I can say is that you would be really really surprised at how many people obtain C-II meds through email sources alone, domestically. Sure, the ones talked about here and elsewhere end up being scams, because their names are given out by the supposed owners of these email accounts in an attempt to drum up business so they can steal money. The email sources that work are not talked about or discussed. There's a reason for that.
Still though, it is pretty unlikely that her "oxycodone" was obtained through the internet...but still very possible. What can you expect though???? TV has to be as sensational as possible, even the characters who are supposed to work based on fact and observation, will probably try and show that they "know what they're talking about" to appear authoritative...so they make statements like that to suck people in. "Discovered by the Germans in 1904, they named it San Diego, which of course in German means a whale's vagina." |

Speaking of sensationalism. The other night our local telly station gave out these few lines.
ATT: Alot of recent deaths from prescription OD's of vicodin, oxycodone, and another opiate's are on the rise here! .. That was it, the entire sound bite. Of course thats sad but.... I emailed the station and got on their case telling them, why didn't they give the complete story? Of course received no answer. But if they were going to talk about prescription opiates, How about how hard it is for legit PP's to obtain legal pain medication from their pcp's, How about the interference from the Feds with pp's Dr's in their treatment with legal opiates? Why not tell the entire story, rather than just the sensationl part? Deaths due to these commonly prescribed drugs here as they stated. They won't tell the rest of the story, all they wanted was the negative news worthy slant they wanted.. Alpha |

Yup! I sure wish they'd start featuring how deadly Tylenol can be, and how insidious. It's still a mystery to me how that took over as the OTC pain med of choice, in Everything, with so little warnings, still. That statistic that over 50% of liver-failure deaths are because of APAP overdoses, mostly unintentional, really should be a lead story, IMHO. (Yeah, when pigs fly...
I consider myself pretty well informed (relative to the "average" consumer), but I didn't realize it was much more dangerous if your not eating much, or right, which I tend to, when pain + anxiety + depression + winter all gang up on me at once. Now I stocked up on Slimfast for such times. Those other supplement drinks taste so vile, even if they are more "healthful." |

Yes , Thanks, you pointed out to me the telly station should have investigated further about the APAP which was probably instrumental in those OD's. I was taking the side of opiates and that they are hard to get which actually has not alot to do with the OD's . I am so bias about the way
Gov interfers with DR's its tainted about everything I feel about drug therapy. Thanks for pointing that out to me in a round about way LvsFan. There's an interesting hearing going on the CSpan channel LvsFan with a sub-commitee trying to stop internet OP's from operating. I think I'll watch some today if its not over. Some of these rep's are so hypocritical I'd wager some of them probably use internet OP's themselves. Also some are so clueless its humerous.. Alpha |

Alpha, I'm on dish network as I live on a farm where we don't get cable. It's on a channel called Discovery Health, I think. I don't know if it's on regular cable or not. I know that I don't have any of the extra packages, so for me it's considered basic cable. Don't know for anyone else... CatLady "If you want to be happy, practice compassion.
