Have been taking Imitrex many years (approx 10-12) with wonderful results. Approx. 3/4 months ago, I had a severe migraine and chose to do an injection and about 10 minutes after the injection, I thought I was having a heart attack! Classic symptoms! During the next migraine attack, I took a 50 mg. Imitrex pill -- same symptoms! Why all of a sudden have I begun to have these heart attack symptoms? This is extremely scary! Anyone else having these symptoms?

Neurologist changed from Imitrex to Zomig..... same symptoms....squeezing heart pain, pain down left arm, sweating... then it subsides about 10-20 minutes later. I told my PCP yesterday, he said discontinue ALL similar products (Imitrex, Zomig, etc.) (which I will do)....

Thanks for any light you can shed on this subject.

If you haven't already done it I would have a complete cardiac work up asap. Medicine symptoms or not they could be co-incidental. Please if you haven't gone already get a cardiac work-up from a cardiologist
I would.

This stuff works for migraines, but I got where I needed to take it everyday. For me, and what the really good headache specialist told me, was that it should be used only once a while. I found this to be really the case. Also, it made me out of it. I had one neuro tell me that all triptans (imitrex, frova, relpax ....) are more or less the same. SO WRONG. A good specialist will know which one works for your type of migraine. For my type, i just very occassionally need Frova. Ultimately imitrex is just a band-aid for migraines.
