can someone answer yet another question for me? i have been using approx 4-5 hydros per day for low back pain for the last year. i take a 'holiday' every couple of weeks to prevent any serious wds. does anyone know if stopping or starting hydro and/or stopping hydro has any effect on weight loss? Or maybe even if it makes you gain weight? i have noticed that i lose weight every time i start taking them, but it might be my imagination.

I notice I am not very hungry after taking either tramadol/ultram or hydro (vicoprofen). I wonder if it does something in the brain to make you not feel very hungry. Have I lost weight....unfortunately not but I don't take it daily. pinque

When I first started taking hydro I lost weight. It decreased my appetite and made foods I normally liked to eat seem not so good. Now that I have been taking it for a while I am eating normal again. So yes it did make me lose weight at first.

There's no across the board side effects on weight change for hydro.
Its a person by person thing. Some gain, some loose, and some have no change.
It just depends on the individual.

has anyone else noticed that the effect of hydro is not as strong when taken with food on your stomach? seems to work much better when i havent eaten. ive been taking it for over a year and weigh about 20 pounds less than i did when i started. dont know for sure whether is has to do with the meds though.

The first time I took hydro and soma together I was sick to my stomach all the time and lost about 25lbs I stopped taking it for about 3 years and regained the wt. When I reinjuried my back I have been taking hydro and flexeril and have not had the nausea I still have lost some wt. about 5lbs so for me if does curb my appetite.

i definitely notice that my medication doesn't seem as effective if i eat with it.i have also noticed that food tastes better to me when i do eat. hm?! i'm on the thin side anyway, so i'm not sure if the meds have anything to do with staying slim.

I have lost some weight since I've been useing hydro, I don't think it has anything to do with the meds, except maybe I feel better so I am more active. I literally lost 10 lbs the first month I was precsribed it, I was overusing, I hadn't felt normal in a long time, anyway it did mess with my tummy, hence the weight loss. Now that I am on a strict hydro schedule I haven't noticed any more weight loss or gain. If you have migraines you can take a preventative called TOPAMAX you WILL lose weight with this drug, my sister thinks it is a wonder drug, she has lost weight and no more migraines, I didn't have as much sucess with it ,too many side effects for me!! Although the weight loss would have been nice!

I get a super hungry feeling when I take it, but then when I eat I get full really fast. I do notice an intense craving for sweets. No weight gain or loss for me, I keep pretty active though. I snack to keep the naseau at bay, although if I eat TOO much it gets worse.

Naturally the med will give more of a kick, so to speak on an empty stomach, it absorbs more quickly through the stomach lining because there is nothing else in there to fight against. Kind of the same premise as having to take a med sublingually, such as nitro for heart patients, or if you have severe panic attacks and can stand the taste putting your xanax under your tounge rather than swallowing it, you will find much quicker relief from the panic, hence quicker absorption into the mucous membrane. Anyway, enough medical lingo. As for weight loss and Hydro, YES, a side effect is weight loss it is a synthetic opiate, heroin is a natural opiate from the poppy seed. Over time you will experience a great deal of loss. Think Kate Moss, the model, she ended up in rehab for heroin addiction and admited she was using the drug to keep her weight off. Alot of model's have admitted the same. Anyway, sorry to ramble, sometimes my medical background comes out in me. K...

I've been on hydro for about 2 years now. In that time I have lost about 45 pounds. But, I had a baby right before I started pain managment. So, I don't know if the weight loss was due to the medication or losing extra baby weight. I am still losing weight, though, and I can't stop. I hate eating. I hate looking at food, unless it's chocolate. I am scared that I feel this way, because I know that I had issues with food when I was a teenager. I got down to about 95 pounds, I was 5'6". One day I went into a seizure, I guess because I hadn't eaten in about 6 days. So anyway, it almost seems like hydro helped me to lose baby weight, but now I'm getting into that old mindset where I think food is the enemy and I'm so desperately afraid of gaining weight.

I may have lost wieght when I was on it, I didnt notice. But I did have to eat before taking or I would be sick to my stomach. But I used the rule of thumb, waiting 45 mintues to a hour after eating and then take the meds so the effects werent reduced. Worked for me.

A really good question. I think I feel better and can use my arm better..so I cook better food instead of just getting an easy pizza....and am more active..up and down the stairs ...easier to carry laundry more often.. vacumn without crying...
I know when i am not distracted with my neck/arm pain, I eat more ..but have still lost weight too..all the best to all
