Yes, that does mean your taking 40 mgs a day. If your going to taper off you should try 10 mgs a week until your off of Hydro. This is just my suggestion.

How does someone take 200mg without overdosing? That means they are taking 20 tabs a day. Oh my!

Well their bodies are probably use to that amount. They probably increased to that amount over time. If they took that many and had never been on Hydro before then they probably would of overdosed. I hope this makes sense.

They are probably getting huge doses of tylenol. Every so often threads pop us discussing ways to protect liver/kidney function. Another board did a poll and the average daily dose was 90mg day. Daily doses of >100mg is probably not as uncommon as we think.
Anyway, good luck with your taper.
Take care,

The maximum dose of APAP in a twenty-four hour period is 4 grams (or 4000 mg). If you are taking the 10/500s, that would be 8 pills in 24 hours. Over 4 grams poses a toxicity risk for you liver. You have probably noticed that there are different types of hydro pills available, for example, 7.5/750 and 10/325. The number before the / indicates milligrams of hydro while the number after the / referes to mg of APAP. If you already know all of this, disregard my blathering. I tend to collect information.

Thanks for that info...I wasn't sure about the max on the tylenol. Hmmmmm Guess I should give my liver a break! I take 10-15 10/500 a day. I am trying to taper starting today, with the plan that by the end of the month I will be done...It's gonna suck but I gotta do it. If not I will see a dr. to get the suboxone or whatever it is called. Does valium help? I have had 4 (hydro's)today so far and I feel like someone is pulling my veins out of my whole body through my feet!

"...pulling veins out of your whole body through your feet.." Well put. Valium can help (by more or less knocking you out), but if you have to be functionable the next morning, you won't want to take much, maybe 5mg, 10mg at the most. It can make you feel dopey the next day. If you taper a little slower, you won't be as uncomfortable. Like cutting back one pill every day or two. If you do a search here for info on tapering, you'll find a lot of useful information. Try to be kind to your liver--it's a good idea. You're doing a great thing by cutting back. It's tough. Almost everyone here knows that. I wish you the best of luck, and feel free to PM me if you need to scream while your veins are being yanked out.

LOL! Thank you for the kind words! I tried to look for advise on tapering but didn't see anyone post one set thing so I figured I would just not take any until I could not stand it anymore and then take one. Is that a good/bad idea? Usually if I am out, I take Ultracet and that completely takes away any w/d's at all. What do you think would be better Ultracet or Valium? I had a 10mg valium once before oral surgery and it knocked my socks off but I don't know how it made me feel the next day cuz I was put under so I'm sure that altered the way I felt more than the Valium!!! So you like my metaphore for w/d feelings? LOL It really does feel like someone is pulling on your veins like a puppet master and then all the sudden he pulls them out of your feet, thats when they get so bad you would rather die...it's the worst feeling I could think of.

Yes, there's nothing quite like staggering around with throbbing legs. I've never taken Ultracet, so I can't speak intelligently about it. As far as your tapering goes, it sounds like you've got a handle on what needs to be done. My grandmother used to say, "That which does not kill you makes you stronger." (She also used to say that Sean Connery can put his boots under her bed anytime.)

My grandma used to say the same thing! That's funny! The only reason I ask about the Ultracet is that since it does take away all withdrawals I figured it must have some kind of opiate something and I don't wanna trade one habit for another...if anyone knows about Ultracet please fill me in.

Grandmas are smart.
Ultracet is addictive. But again, so is Valium.

Hmmmmm...life if grand huh!? Well, I will try the valium...start off with 5mg when I need to be knocked out. Hopefully I will not need it that long...

how addictive is Ultracet or tramadol ? If I want a hydro holiday this seams like a good way to ease the WD symtoms. I take about 2 10/325's a day, maybe 3 on a bda day but space apart so hopefully its notto bad. Just went through xanax wd and that was hell. 1 week I havn't taken a xanax, luckily I have valium to taper with or just use instead of xanax. I will never take a xanax again ever. My body obviously holds onto it so the Wd's suck!
