i am now currently on methadone 120mg. In 2 weeks

I go in for sub. Never even heard of Kratom. How, where do u get it?

You know, I don't think I would even bother with kratom right now. It really won't do anything for you while you are on the methadone and then the sub. Kratom is mainly used for those that want to cut back on opiod usuage, temporarily, and some use it to get off altogether. But I haven't heard of it used that much when undergoing the treatment you are and will be. This is just my opinion, but I think you would just be throwing your money away on it at this point. I do wish you well and good luck. We do have several threads on kratom in other parts of this forum though, if you would like to read about it.

As pb said, I'm not sure kratom is going to do you much good given how much methadone you are taking.
As an aside, I'm on Suboxone and have been for several months and as I understand it, when switching from Methadone to Sub, you have to taper the Meth down to 30mg first, then abstain for 24-48 hours before going on Sub. If your Sub doctor tells you different and you actually just switch from one to the other, please let me/us know as I have a friend who is on Methadone and wanting to switch to Suboxone.

I heard, from a Clinic in FL, and I am going to try to do this: Ten days prior to my sub appointment I am switching to ten days of Oxy. By, the tenth day the Methadone is out of your system. Then the Oxy's are shorter lasting in your system. So, from methadone, to the Oxy's, Then onto the Sub. To me this way seems scientifically O.K., but I don't know YET how it will work. I will defintly post my experience, so everone else might have it easier

Hello everyone-I hate to pop in on your conversation but there is a website that has answered all my sub questions-along with drs. replying also. I have been on Suboxone since April 06-coming from 5 yrs of vicodin with the last few yrs being abusive 10-15-20 pills daily.

I was really amazed that suboxone was able to help with my chronic pain, took my migranes away(used to have3-4), and also helped with a terrible monthly cycle, there are some very positive things about it. When coming off of it I hear is difficult. I was so glad to read about someone coming off of it rather easy. Anyway, I feel redundent when I talk about this website-but there are quite a few methadone people that have switched to sub and you can read their stories. The website is: naabt.org

It is sooooo Nice to Know that their ARE LOTS of People like Me.WOW.....One of my Biggest Problems with the Meth is how much Weight I have Gaines. Second I sweat like a fountian ALL the Time. These truly are the main resons for the switch. (and you don't have to go every day). My Question is this What Side Effects does Sub. have? Am I going to stay ultimatly like this, if so I can't/won't Go on. My Weight has gone up almost 70lbs!! Its not that I am vein or any thing, it's that It is life altering and Very Uncomfortable (Physically) to be this big. I pray to the Higher Power that this Sub. reacts with me the way I have researched, and What Everyone here has Said. Please anybody Side-Efects of Sub. Please. Thanks, D

One of the things I like about Suboxone is there are no noticeable side affects for me. It just makes me feel 'normal' whatever that is. I don't feel anything after taking it, good bad or in between.
Someone very close to me is doing the Methadone route and we compare notes frequently. Another nice thing about Suboxone is it (reportedly) has a very low maximum dosage, I think 16-32mg daily, after that, it has no increased affect so you don't have that ever escalating dose increase you get with Methadone. I've been on 8mg a day since I started several months ago and frequently forget to take the second 4mg half in the evening and don't notice it when I do.

Sedated, that's a really high dose of methadone, compared to what I used to be on and what most of the board members I've heard from have been on. So, not to be the bearer of bad tidings here, I think that you probably are going to go through some withdrawal issues, though hopefully they won't be really long-lasting.

I've never heard of switching from methadone to oxy then to sub, and will be really interested in hearing how that goes. Just remember, if you do have some 'discomfort' with the switch (I had to say that because it just frosts me so bad when doctors and dentists use it because they're afraid to say something like 'horrible searing agony' ) that eventually the sub should kick in and get you levelled back out. I must confess, though, that I'm saying this based on others' experience. I'm still waiting for a sub appointment that's about 10 days away so I can't speak from experience. I can, however, speak from experience when it comes to cold turkey withdrawal from methadone, as I went through that in the 70's. And what you're doing now with the switch to sub will be 100 times better then that was!

And as for your questions about weight gain and sweating, I haven't hear of those being problems with sub. I gained about 50 pounds on methadone so I know what that's like. Best of luck and keep us informed on how it's going...

Hi Katerina1 so Sorry if affended anyone, or this site. Not my Intention. So I just keep checking with this thresd, I really don't know what this That I started is it a Post? a Forum? a Thread? Still catching on.? Anyway Do I just keep checking here for advise on this topic? Where is there to go to be in a "support" group? I am Really Looking fora place where people get to know each other, Other people just like Me? I believe it is out there, and I have read about, and seen people bond with one another and relate to others Like themselves. Where can/do I Go to talk and slowly be intergrated between my life and the lives of others?

Switching to Kratom doesn't make a lot of sense, since its just another opiate, and not as good as methadone.

As for going to sub, switching to a shorter-acting opiate to get off methadone makes logical sense (not a doctor) to me.

Keep in mind that oxycontin is a time-release in most forumulations, so its not that short-acting. Hydro or pure ocycodone would make more sense to me. I guess you could chew oxycontin, but that would definately "off label" use!

[Warning, chewing Oxycontin can release enough opiate to cause a fatal overdose, so don't mess around!]

As for other, non-medicinal drugs: probably a good time to consider going without so you don't just replace one with another. Getting drunk every day wouldn't be a good way to get off hydro either, for example...

Sedated, you are doing just fine here. You are just learning about the board is all. We are all here to support each other. Some may not have the exact problems as others..but the main thing is that most of us will lend a shoulder to cry on and listen to anyone that has a problem.
You will see some that are in situations like what you are dealing with sooner or later, I promise.
We have already PMed a couple times and I enjoy hearing from you..keep it up!! I also know that Becky (5465) has been trying to catch up with you here. There are a lot of wonderful people on this board. Just keep posting and try and keep your chin up!! Hang in there..
