I'm about to commence titrating off of 5mg Oxycodone...after making an 18 hour attempt to cold turkey from 40mg/day. I did not feel pretty. I'm curious how others withdrawals went. Yes I know there are plenty of folks dealing with hydros of various strengths. The oxy are stronger and I wanted to know how the wd had been for you. I will reduce my intake by 30% ever 4 days over the next couple of weeks. Thoughts anyone?

I'm hoping there is one of you who have gone through the gauntlet of withdrawals, if you can speak of the physical effects as you near the end of your tapering off. When you get to the point where you are jumping off and going to Kratom is the discomfort bearable? Is it like feeling flu-like? Or is it like rolling on glass shards? Thanks

empire boy, I thought someone would come along and answer your questions.

I am on oxycodone/contin and haven't had to withdraw ...yet.
I *think* that kratom will help. I did stop taking oxycodone and used kratom about two years ago, for just two days.

I think the withdrawal will be similar to the hydrocodone...but I don't know. I have started/stopped hydro with no problem.

So, I don't have much to add here, but I think that taking the oxycodone at the same time but decreasing the mg, such as biting the small pills in half when you do take them, then increasing the amount of time between doses should help.

I can't think of anything else. Are you doing this in conjunction of your doc?

hope this helps.
EDIT-I cannot spell!

Thanks for your response Kat. I tried to stop over last weekend. I went from 40mg/day to zero. It was horrid and frightening. This from a person who has done his share of wd from coke, meth, cigs. But this was a very different beast. I think I can cold turkey but I think I need to get to a lower dosage first. This is my current goal. Thanks again

empireboy, I'm in the same boat as Kat. I currently take Oxy and have never stopped. That should change soon. After the 25th, I should be ready to start tapering and get off this stuff. Sorry I couldn't help you but your experience will lead to good advice for me in a few weeks.

I have already posted a lot EB, but, theoretically, after you taper properly, you really shouldn't feel much, if any, withdrawl effects. That is the whole idea. You may not even need any kratom. Hopefully, that is what you will find. Worked for me with hydro. And I do believe they are similar enough to compare.

Let us know how you are doing while tapering.

Thanks Pharmboy, Yes I've found lots of information scattered through out the board. Sometimes though I miss things especially when I'm on the look out for a specific topic or sequence of words/phrases. What you say is reassuring, and given I'm now down to 30mg/day I'm finding it is working just fine. Thank you for your assistance and information.

EB, it sounds like you know what to do and are already successfully doing it. That is great. The only thing I can add is stay busy and stay away from the house. By being busy you occupy your mind with something else and staying away from the house, well that is where temptation is.

Continued success EB.

It has been a while since I have been on here. I hope all are doing well. If I could add I was doing about 24 10/325 a day. 8 pills 3 times a day. It took me about 2 weeks to taper off. I just cut it in half the first week. The second week and so on I would take about 3 pills when I felt my body withdrawing. I would get the sweats and my face felt all clamy and pale. If I took 3 that would satisfy my body. In addition I was taking kratom , advil gels, and I had some codeine on hand to help out with the rest. It has been a long road but victorious. Pm me if you need anymore info. Good luck!

dboy, that is a great story. I am so proud of you and I hope you are proud of yourself. I know it is a tough battle and sounds like you've got it "licked". I love hearing stories like this. It is such an encouragement for all who read this.

I agree with MsMag. We really do need to hear the success stories, so many folks come here out of sheer desperation (and thats fine!) but it serves us well to hear the good stuff, I myself am starting to emerge from a long haul of Methadone (addiction and,or tolerance) I did not read the literature on Methadone in advance, I won't be doing that again, I read first, then ask for a specific med. Thank you for sharing this!

Try using a pill spliter and take a small amount off the pill gradually. I had to do this with ambien after using it for about a year. Does anyone know why they stopped making Generic Oxycodone?

Tapering should make it as easy as possible. Don't be afraid to pig out, or even smoke some grass (if you can find it, I've used it and it helps like you wouldn't believe).

In fact, once you're totally tapered down, that's probably my primary suggestion.

same thing go down 75 percent oto 50 to 25 to 10 and yes the first day you wake up with nothing if you do it that way you will feel honestly only like agitated next day less agitated 3rd day you will feel like you walked out of a fog until if you have real pain you feel that head on when you move a certain way to use it as an excuse to need it again, turn to a moist heating pad for over half the time you are awake if you have to for real pain. use naproxen tylenol ibuprofen and if you have and you dont need the few days before the last day soma or zanex is a little cheat of a help if you dont have you will make it through that agitated feeling. its not hardly anything. really . i wont lie to you . you can do it and you will feel a new way about yourself and your life, edwina
