Regarding the leg cramps that seem common during hydro withdrawal, what causes them? Does it have to do with the buildup of hydro in the muscle tissue?
Also, what is a good source of potassium, BESIDES bananas? I simply cannot stand bananas. I'd appreciate any help available. |

Me and nickelanddime found a medicine at Walmart called Leg Cramps. I haven't tried it yet, nickelanddime said it worked for him/her. I bought me some at Walmart for only $3.96. It is in the vitamin section. I would give it a try. Banana's are good also. Oh, but you hate bananas.

This is something a gal in my office shared with me--have not researched it myself but think I will.
Opiates cause muscle damage according to what she has read. I am thinking that it sounds pretty correct as the leg thing really can be bothersome to say the least. I was thinking on the lines of atrophy. Think I will do a search and if I find out more I will post. Heck its Friday and I am just hangin at work anyway.. |

I've been talking to the doctors at the hospital where I work at, and it seems taking a low dosage of Quinine helps with the leg cramps associated with hydrocodone withdrawls. Quinine is a malaria medicine, also used for nighttime leg cramps, but a few doctors have had relatively good success with it.

I had heard that you can buy a version of it at the drugstore.
I cannot remember what exactly the name brand you are looking for. I have heard it works wonders. I'm gonna go look and see if I can find it, and get back to you. Or if someone knows the brand name, can you post it here? I think it would be a good thing to have onboard if you are goig to tapertown or CT. |

Quote: Tonic water has quinine in it, and yes it's also sold in stores too like at Walmart. I have no clue what the drug is called, but it is indeed sold in stores. A doc could write you a script for it though too, and it's dead cheap at the pharmacy. |

I did not know about the potassium however I took some
calicium supplements and it seemed to help a little, now that I think of it maybe they have potassium in them. I took the calcium as I heard that "charley horses" (aka leg cramps) were caused by lack of calcium. Of course this was not "charley horses" in relation to Hydro withdrawal. I'm on Day 2 of CTing and my legs hurt like the dickens. Good thing I *love* quinine water. Better run to Safeway! Thanks for all the good advice everyone! with love, nephling |
