Hi everyone,

As you might know, I have been oxycodone-free for 6 days and feeling human again! Thanks to everyone for your help & kind words---PW is a lifesaver! I'm trying now to help someone I know get of oxycodone, too. She has done a successful taper (down to 1 15mg oxyc pill/day) but she's having ETREME sore throat pain. Is this a wd symptom? Please help, everyone.

I guess I will jump in on this~ I dont think that your friends sore throat is a wd symptom.I would tend to think it is a coincidence that is happening while doing a taper, but most likely the sore throat is viral and has nothing to do with the meds! Totally just my opinion, I have learned everyone responds SO different to medications that you just cant assume anything!!!

My best guess is the sore throat came along as the taper was starting, especially since it is a stressful thing to do and it is not uncommon for a stuffy nose or runny nose to accompany w/d's so it could also be that!!!!! As you know Roxanne....there are great people on this board and I bet someone will come along with some thoughts of there own on this~ heck, maybe they have even experienced a sore throat too!!! You and your friend be well, and good job!!! Big Grin

I agree with Sprawl (love the avi!)and think she is just suffering some other ailment that just decided to make her really, really miserable.

That being said, the 15mg oxycodone can be "bit" in two to reduce the dosage. I did that with the same dosage and those pills are soo little that the only way I could halve them was to bite them in two.

Have her try that. I am glad you are doing so well!!

I totally agree with Sprawl and Kat.

Spawl...we should start a practice together. You'd make a helluva nurse!

Thank you Sprawl, Katerina and Janie,

I kinda thought it was a coincidence, too, but wasn't quite sure. She's almost there w/ the tapering--almost ready (mentally, you guys probably agree w/ me that's the hardest part) to go to 1/2 a pill a day. Slow taper as opposed to jumping off cold turkey is definitely the softer, gentler way but still it produces wd symptoms. Its never easy but its easier w/ a little help from my friends at PW!

Taking care of people seems like the most rewarding job, I guess that is why I like being a mommy!!!!!

Yes Roxanne, that mental part is a HUGE STEP! hang in there....it does get better!

Sprawl....the math is so easy now....the only real math is figuring out IV drips but then the infusion machine does that for you. So go fo it. I hear they have a wonderful nursing school in the beautiful state of Montana...I wanna live there!
