Hello. I am new to this site. Having been reading lots of posts regarding "getting off of pain meds," and I have a question.
I have been taking Norco 10/325 for too long, and too much. I want to get off of this stuff, with the least amount of indrawals as possible. I went Cold Turkey one time a few months ago because I ran out of pills before my next refill. I thought I was going to die. Don't ever want to go through that again. I have read that Ultram helps with withdrawals, and also some people use it as they taper. I am trying to taper off now, but unfortunately I am always getting into my next day's dosage. Please can anyone tell me if Ultram can help with tapering, and if so how would the schedule work? Do you take an Ultram instead of Norco for one dose, and increase Ultram as you decrease the Norco? Also, to get a rx of Ultram do you need to send in medical records, and get a doctor's consult with one of the OP listed on this site? Please any help, advise, or support would be much appreciate. This Norco addiction has to stop. Thanks so much for any and all responses. Tigers < !--color--> |

Tigers,
This varies from person to person, what some people do is to subsitute an ultram dose for a hydro dose -- maybe one dose a day at first, then two doses a day, etc. But ultram isn't a drug you want to take 4 or 5 of in one dose. It's apparently very safe at regular dosages (2 pills) but in higher-than-normal doses can give you seizures or "the jerks" anyway. |

If I may add to this I was just at the local pharmacy today, fillinf an ultram script. I want to slow down on the hydro as well and the pharmacist reiterated what Missthing said. trading dose for dose and it should help. Theya re two different classes of drug so both being in your system won't hurt according to this pharmacist.

Hi Dreama. Thanks for asking. Not even trying to taper at this point, because my pain is really acting up, plus I have another issue with my eye, infection and very painful as well. I think when I do get on the taper schedule I am going to forget about the ultram. Too scary with the possibility of seizures! I will just use what others have suggested on this board.
Hanging in there the best I can. Tigers |

Tigers,
People only have seizures on ultram if they ABUSE it -- taking double or triple the dose. But if you think you wouldn't be able to stick to the recommended dose, than you're probably right, ultram might not be good for you since taking 20/day (instead of 8 or 9) could lead to seizures. Guess you'll just have to decide whether you have the self-control to take a normal dose. It isn't really hard, IMO, since there's no "buzz" like you get with hydro, but that's your choice to make.
