We have had many threads about Kratom before for several years. However, they end up getting buried. But interest is still there. I know there are several members that are, more or less, experts on the topic. Perhaps we can discuss the herb, the different strengths and varieties in comes in, the costs, its usuage, and maybe even vendors so our membership can know more about it.

Hello , Pharmboy and to all whilst I myself have
never used Kratom I can definitely help in the info/vendor dept., as I have however used several trusted places for things "in that neighborhood" Big Grin

Relative to info: BOTANICAL CLASSIFICATION
Family :
Rubiaciae
Genus :
Mitragyna
Species :
speciosa
COMMON NAMES
Kratom; Ketum; Kakuam; Ithang; Thom
EFFECTS CLASSIFICATION
Stimulant; Depressant; Intoxicant
DESCRIPTION
Mitragyna speciosa is a leafy tree that grows from 3-15 meters tall. Its leaves contain mitragynine and are chewed as an opiate substitute and stimulant in Thailand and South-East Asia, primarily among the working class. It has a relatively long history of human use.
EFFECTS LIST #
POSITIVE

* Simultaneous stimulation & sedation
* Feelings of empathy
* Feelings of euphoria
* Aphrodisiac qualities for some people
* Vivid waking dreams
* Useful with physical labor

NEUTRAL

* Relatively short duration
* Change in ability to focus eyes
* Analgesia

NEGATIVE

* Very bitter taste
* Dizziness, nausea and/or vomiting at higher doses
* Mild depression during and/or after
* Increase in (perceived?) body temperature. (feel hot and sweaty)
* Hangover similar to alcohol

The effects of Mitragyna speciosa are described as being a combination of both stimulation and sedation. The stimulatory effects may be shorter in duration than the sedation effect, coming on faster and fading sooner.

Kratom (Mitragyna speciosa) is described as being a stimulant at low doses, and narcotic/sedative at higher doses. Dosages can vary greatly depending on the freshness of the leaf and the potency of the particular plant/strain. Fresh or freshly dried leaves are generally considered the most potent, but dried leaves are most common outside of SE Asia. Following are approximate dosages for oral (chewed or tea) dried and transported Kratom leaf in grams (as sold outside SE Asia).

IMPORTANT NOTE: There are 4 common grades of kratom leaves sold on the commercial market and each is a different potency. Some companies use the terms "Organic Commercial Grade" for the least potent (dosages 5-30 grams dried leaf), "Premium" or "Instant Premium" (dosages 2-15 grams), "Super" (2-8 grams) or "Super Enhanced" (dosages 1-5 grams). Many vendors do not use these labels for their products and the potencies are not standardized in any way. As of 2003, kratom sales usually seemed to include material that fell into the Commercial Grade, but Premium and Super Grade may now be the norm.

Nausea, dysphoria and vomiting are likely with overly strong doses, so it is important for kratom-tea drinkers to start low with the specific leaf material they have and slowly work the dosage up to avoid unpleasant effects.

A teaspoon of dried leaf is usually between 1.5 and 2.0 grams. 1 milliliter of dried leaf is usually between 0.3 and 0.4 grams.

Oral Kratom Dosages (dried leaf)
Enhanced (Extract Added)
Threshold 1 gram
Light 1-2 grams
Common 2-3 grams
Strong 3-6 grams

Oral Kratom Dosages (dried leaf)
Super Grade
Threshold 1-2 grams
Light 2-4 grams
Common 3-5 grams
Strong 4-8 grams

Oral Kratom Dosages (dried leaf)
Premium Grade
Threshold 2-4 grams
Light 3-5 grams
Common 4-10 grams
Strong 8-15 grams

Oral Kratom Dosages (dried leaf)
Commercial Grade (low potency)
Threshold 3-7 grams
Light 5-10 grams
Common 10-20 grams
Strong 20-50 grams

Onset : 5-15 minutes
Duration : 2-5 hours
Normal After Effects : 3-6 hours
More than 25 alkaloids have been isolated in Mitragyna speciosa. The three most abundant indoles are mitragynine (responsible for 1/2 of the alkaloid content), paynanthine, and speciogynine. The first two of these are believed to be unique to M. speciosa. The two most abundant oxindoles are mitraphylline and speciofoline. Other alkaloids present include ajmalicine, corynanthedine, mitraversine, rhychophylline, and stipulatine. Mitragynine is believed by many to be, but has not been proven to be, the primary active alkaloid in M. speciosa.

NAME : mitragynine
CHEMICAL NAME : 9-methoxy-corynantheidine
CHEMICAL FORMULA C23H30N2O4
BOILING POINT : Freebase: 230-240° C
MOLECULAR WEIGHT : 398.495
SOLUBILITY : alcohol, chloroform, acetic acid

Okay, so now relative to vendors I myself can speak for bouncingbearbotanicals.com
and My best ethnobotanical supplier that I've tried would have to be ethnobotonysource.com Although, It looks like they no longer carry kratom, but I swore I saw it on there 6 months ago???
Off Topic Note "There San Pedro" was AMAZING!!! Wink

Hi everybody!!! PB how are you? Hey, I am here to help out as much as I can... As you know, I no longer are involved with Hydro (7 months now) but I am also a very fond user of Kratom... As a matter of fact... Right now I am tapering my use of Kratom... I think it might be time to go ahead and be "substance free" from everything at this stage of my life... Something that I feel I need! I can offer you a lot of advice about Kratom... Within the last few months I learned a lot! Trust me! The post above is a very imformative post if you want to know about the alkolod active properties and chemistry but if you want the low down with how Kratom effects you and how and where to buy, that might be something I can help you out with...

Ask away and I will try and help you all as much as possible...

On that note, Kratom can be a very good tool to help you keep your Hydro use in check and tolerance down... You have to be very careful with it though... Many people for a long time believed that it was not anything like an opiod/opiate... Trust me on this... Anything that binds to receptors will act a certain way if you indeed try to remove that binding active chemical. You WILL EXPERIENCE withdraws if you use Kratom on a daily basis.. there is a great amount of talk about this here and other forums...

Like I said, Kratom was/still is a tool that I used to help me with paws when I cold turkey detoxed from Hydro... I am sorta in a situation right now that I am looking to possibly remeove Kratom from my life and be substance free for GOOD!

I look forward to answering any questions that you all might have...

Hope you are all having a pain free day...

Love

Jen!

It's definately NOT for everyone, I know Mistletoe swears by it, I tried it only once, I turned as green as the Kratom. It does work apparently. Nice to see you Jen!

Some people don't like it, for sure. However, nowadays, there are all sorts of strengths and varieties. Most people I have talked to use it in one way or the other. Personally, I don't use it for more than a couple of weeks and stop. So I haven't had any problems. Usually I will a super premium strength and cap them, or have them capped, or a tincture. I also don't take it in huge quantities either. Maybe just enough to get me through a period of time I do not take my usual medication without the awful side effects of quitting.

It is great to see Jen again. Perhaps Jen, or others that know more than I, can tell us of the different types and varieties and their characteristics. Personally, I usually like a type that gives me a little boost in energy.

I discovered Kratom a year after I detoxed. I like the positive effects that it gives me.. My creativity is better, I speak better.. I'm a confident person(or I pretend to be *wink) but it does give me that extra ooomph in my personality..

I'm a user of Bali Kratom.

Try working out(cardio work out for 30 min) and then burn 1 teaspoon. It's pretty cool.

There are others here that can help you better than I, and I have never used Oxycontin, and but a handful of times used Oxycodone for very short periods of time, but that would seem to be a lot--though doable. Oxycodone is about 1.5 times as strong as hydrocodone from what I read. Some have suggested it is might be twice as strong.

So, to put your usage in perspective so most will understand your starting point, that would be the equivalent of taking at least 36 Norcos a day. I am surprised you doctor won't help you get off them.

Again, this is my take, and others may know better, but if you are going to do it yourself, I would think you would want to start by tapering. Do you have enough and trust yourself enough to do that? I know Kratom will work, as it has for me, when one is suddenly cut off or out of meds taking 3 to 6 Norcos a day. I am not sure about your levels though without first tapering.

You know, makaveli, your case is so unique I think you should start your own thread in this discussion area so people that know more about taking that level of oxyconting can help you. There are some here that have been in your boat. Good luck to you.

Open up the Withdrawl/Tapering forum, then at the top left you will see a "new" tab. Click that and start your own thread. That would be best for you so you can get advise specific for your circumstance. Good luck--PB
