Hey all,

I have to tell you that I've been practicing/doing pilates for about six weeks now, and I LOVE it, and it has done WONDERS for my back and body in general. It's pretty easy on your body, doesn't require any equipment, and is very very relaxing to boot. I've never had back problems, but I got my stepfather who does have back problems to start doing it, and he says he's never felt better -- and he even stopped going to the chiropractor! I can't say enough about it.

It's easy and gentle enough to do (at the onset -- it gets more difficult as you go along and get better at the exercises) to where you won't hurt yourself, and the combination of stretching/muscle work is amazing. It's the first form of 'art' exercise I've done that I WANT to be better at.

Anyway, just thought I'd throw that out there. Physical therapists use it all the time, too! Lots of people throw out their pain meds once they start it -- I swear. I'll try to find a few good links if you're interested. I recommend going to a class at the gym at first, just to get a feel for it, then buying a video or two. A good one is "Pilates for Dummies" to start. The instructor takes it easy so you can get your form right -- if you don't have the right form, you aren't doing it correctly -- and it's really fun, too! It's a total mind/body workout that helps pain and IMO is better than yoga, but I'm not really a yoga kind of gal.

Just a thought on this Sunday night. Take care.

I'm very interested but I don't want to go to a gym. Guess I could google it or find a dvd of it at Wal-Mart or somewhere? I'm serious about this now. I'm ready to get into some toned up hunka hunka woman!!!
